Mangalore, Aug 9, 2014: Zilla Panchayat Chief Planning Officer Sandhya K S, who presided over the function, called upon the officers to inculcate the values from the life of P C Mahalanobis.  Senior Statistical Officer K Tharanath, the resource person on the occasion, gave details on the imimportance of statistics in the development. Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of P C Mahalanobis on the occasion. 

The statistics day is celebrated in the form of a campaign in village and taluk levels, the role of statistics in the development of country would be well conveyed to the general public. When they become aware of the significance of statistics, the collection of data will be easy, said National Sample Survey Office Regional Head P Anand. He was speaking after inaugurating the 121th birth anniversary of Father of Statistics Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis at the District Statistics Office in Mangalore on Friday,  Earlier, District Statistical Officer Pradeep D’Souza, in his introductory remarks, explained the significance of the day and explained the activities of the department.
