Student Leadership Workshop Insignia 2014 to Mark Martyrs’ Day

Mangalore, March 21, 2014: In view of exploring the innate leadership potential among youth and to sensitize them socially and politically, CREST (Creating Resource to Empower Society Today) a youth platform of Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL) in association with Rotary Club of Mangalore North and www.youthania.com will be organising Insignia 2014, a day-long student leadership workshop at Rotary Bal Bhavan at Mannagudda in the city on Sunday. The day is observed as Martyr’s Day to commemorate the great sacrifice of Shahid Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev during the freedom struggle.

Insignia is an annual event of CREST which draws under graduate and post graduates from different colleges in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Over 100 students from around 20 institutions are expected to be participating in the day long deliberations which comprises of an array of activities, group discussions, theme lecture among others. The theme for Insignia 2014 is `Youth to Lead India’.

The event will be inaugurated by Mayor of Mangalore City Mahabala Marla and the key note address on the theme of the workshop will be delivered by youth icon and social entrepreneur Abhishek Purohit from Jodhpur, Rajastan who has founded an NGO called GROW (Giving Rise to Our World).

One of the significant sessions during the day will be a panel discussion comprising of Lok Sabha candidates from Dakshina Kannada constituency or their representatives who will air their promises to the youth if they are elected. The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. P L Dharma, Chairman of Department of Political Science, Mangalore University. Eminent resource persons will facilitate the activities throughout the day. A session on `RTI as a tool for better tomorrow’ will be among the highlight of the workshop. Student leaders from different institutions will also plan our a socially relevant project that they will implement in their respective areas as a follow-up of this workshop.
