Sep 23, 2016: It is reported that Students from several schools were introduced to policing at the open house session organised by the Mangaluru city police. According to DCP (Crime and Traffic) Dr Sanjeev M Patil, the session which was resumed after the last session was held some time ago, saw an overwhelming response.

Six police stations had opened their doors for students. It included Mangaluru North, South, East, Surathkal, Mulki and East Traffic station. Students, accompanied by their teachers, from Government Primary School, Mulki, BEM School, Car Street, St Joseph’s Primary and Higher Primary School, Nanthoor, Vidyadayini School, Surathkal and Pandeshwar Higher Primary School visited the police stations to get first hand information on the functioning of the police system.

They were introduced to the procedures that included receiving complaints and registering of cases, receiving and responding to the calls, nature of cases.

The inspectors turned tutors for the day, answering to the queries of inquisitive students. Some got a practical understanding of police manning the traffic, under scorching sun, as they were taken to a busy junction near Martyr’s Memorial.

The DCP said the session is mainly aimed at removing the deep-rooted mental block among people and improve public-friendly policing. It is intended to target schools in the jurisdiction of every police stations. Every Thursday would be meant for open house sessions, except for VIP movements and bandobust arrangements, when the police personnel would also be on their toes, he said.
