Mangalore, May 19: ‘Vihaan’ a team of 28 students of Canara Engineering College have succeeded to unveil a small scale hybrid vehicle, ‘Uchishrava’ recently.
According to students, who involved in making vehicle, hybrid can be of parallel and series type. The team chose to make a parallel type by connecting autorickshaw engine to the rear wheels and hub motors from marathon electric bikes which form the front wheels. A manual switching system allows the driver to choose from either of them. It was constructed solely by students in college after class hours and holidays.
Now the team has registered in a prestigious international event Formula Electric and Hybrid Italy ( FEHI ) in Turin, Italy in the month of October. Teams from universities across the globe have to design and build a Hybrid formula style car. Vihaan is the only team from southern India and the second from India, in the competition. The team extends their warm gratitude to all who have encouraged and supported, both morally and financially.
