Swimming pool of int’l standards at Aloysius

Mangaluru, June 22, 2015:   The Aloysius college’s new pool of Olympic standards will be a first in the city.  It will also be first of its kind in the region. The pool will meet the standards necessary for holding international events in the city. The construction work of the pool is progressing at a brisk pace and the college authorities are expecting to open it at a mega event in January 2016.

The eight-lane swimming pool with a length of 50m will have a width of 25m. The width of the pool is sufficient for 10 lanes too. St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA) president Richard Gonsalves told media the pool is being constructed with a generous contribution from the alumni of 135-year-old institution.  The pool will meet all international event requirements prescribed now. It will have a water treatment plant, gallery, changing rooms, parking area and other necessary infrastructure required. All types of national and international swimming events can be organized here. 

The pool is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore.  College received Rs 1 crore through University Grants Commission (UGC), the rest of the amount is being pooled through contributions from alumni.
