Teacher booked for corporal punishment

Mangalore, oct 1, 2013: Konaje police have registered the compliant filed by Childline accusing a teacher of Nishara Public School in Harekala of punishing students.

The Childline personnel on September 25 found that the computer science teacher in the school had made 23 students do sit-ups in front of their classmates for not doing homework.

This had not only pained them mentally but also led to pain in their legs. Apart from filing a complaint with the Block Education Officer, the Childline personnel had submitted a complaint before the police. The police registered the complaint after obtaining permission from the jurisdictional magistrate.

Body found

Body of a 30-year-old private company employee was found on the beach behind the NMPT guest house in Panambur police station limits on Monday.

Police said Nitin Bandodkar had come to the beach along with his friends on Sunday evening. He got stuck in the sea water when he went for swimming. His body was found few metres away from the place he had gone for swimming, the police said.

Run over

A 40-year-old man was run over by an express train near Puttur Railway station on Monday. Identity of the person was not known, the Railway Police said.

Gun possession

A person was arrested on the charge of illegal possession of single barrel muzzle loading (SBML) gun at Ajri village under Shankarnarayana police station limits in Kundapur taluk on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police went to the house of V.G. Johnson and saw him cleaning the gun. According to the police, Mr. Johnson accepted that he did not have a licence for possessing the gun. The police arrested Mr. Johnson and seized the gun.
