Udupi, Dec 22: A special MLA-sponsored programme was organized at Rajanagana of Shri Krishna Mutt to honor selected schools and to distribute awards to teachers on Dec 20, Sunday.
Dr. V S Acharya, the home minister of Karnataka, inaugurated the programme, and said that the government will make attempts to get grants from linguistic and cultural departments to foster the learning of Yakshagana in educational institutions. He said that new Yakshagana artists can be created only by teaching Yakshagana to children in schools.
Paryaya Shree Puthige Mutt Seer Sugunendratheertha Swamiji blessed K Raghupathi Bhat for his support toward the introduction of Yakshagana skills in school children. He also said that he would create a Yakshagana Academy Office in Udupi.
Dr. B V Mahidas, the assistant director of general education department, and BEO Manjunathayya were also present at the programme.
