Team raids illegal granite quarry near Karkala

Udupi, Dec 19, 2015: A team of officials from the Revenue Department, Police and Geology and Mines, raided a granite stone quarry operating illegally at Kukkundur village in Karakala taluk on December 16.

The team raided the quarry and seized a crane, a truck and other implements used for illegal quarrying.

Case registered

Later the team handed over the case to the Karkala Town Police for investigation. The police have registered a case against eight persons in this regard under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 and Karnataka Minor Minerals Concession Rules 1997, and investigations were on, the police said.
