Those enroled with NPR don’t need Aadhaar: Reju

Udupi, Sep 7, 2013 : Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju said on Friday that the people need not panic and rush to post offices to enrol for Aadhaar just because Udupi district would come under direct benefit transfer (DBT) for LPG cylinders from October 1.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Reju said that under the DBT scheme, the subsidy amount would be credited in bank accounts of household LPG consumers, who have the unique identity numbers. There are a total of 2.03 lakh LPG cylinders consumers under the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) in Udupi district.

he Village Accountants and Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) were going to all houses in all villages and urging people to get enrolled for NPR so that they could posses the unique identity number.

Mr. Reju said some people were getting unnecessarily concerned because they had not received the unique identity numbers or got the smart cards under the NPR. Since the data being processed is huge, it was taking some time.

The Aadhaar cards were being issued only at three head post offices in the district – Udupi, Kundapur and Byndoor. “Those who get enrolled under either NPR or Aadhaar would get a unique identity number. Hence, people who had enrolled under the NPR need not again get enrolled under the Aadhaar. Due to lack of information, some people were getting enrolled for both,” he said.

“There is a grace period of three months even after the DBT scheme starts on October 1, people need not panic. Most of the people will get the unique identity numbers in one or two months,” he said.
