Thousand pedal to give a message for a clean city

Mangaluru, Nov 09, 2015: More than a thousand cyclists, of whom at least 900 were students, rode across Mangaluru for about 12 km spreading the message of ‘Clean Mangaluru-Best Mangaluru’, on Nov 8, Sunday.

The box had been kept sealed for several months, following differences of opinion among the administrative committee of the Dargah, the public and the officials of the Wakf Board. The donation box of the Tajul Islam Muslim Jamayat Dargah at Yemmemadu village was opened in the presence of officials, with all security.
The district Wakf Board chairperson M H Abdul Rehman said that Shamsuddin has been appointed as the administrative officer by the new committee. As the box had been closed, the devotees were not able to drop offerings into it. The box was opened on Nov 7,Saturday, in the presence of religious leader Koyamattangal and the money in the box will be used for local development work.

The Dargah has been managed by the local people for a long period. Several citizens in the village had, however, submitted an application to the Board, to conduct an election for the committee. Accordingly, the government had passed an order, appointing Shamsuddin K P as the officer in-charge of the Dargah, till the elections are conducted.

Collections : Due to the confusion caused over the appointment, however, the donation box was given to the custody of the DC . When the box was opened, Rs 12,34,740 and 150 kg of coins were found.

Shamsuddin said that orders of the court will be followed in this regard. "The suggestions of members of the old committee and senior local citizens too will, however, be sought to preserve the sanctity of the religious shrine and to maintain harmony," he added.  The funds from the box will be used for development of the Dargah, said the Wakf Board CEO and the DC.
