Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2015 : Addressing media on Oct 26, Vinyasa Hegde, faculty coordinator, said that the SOC -School of Communication, Manipal University, will be organising a three-day MIFF - Manipal International Film Festival here from October 29 to 31.
The last few decades had seen cinema unfurl, transform and evolve into a more dynamic entity. The Manipal International Film Festival (MIFF) was being held annually to capture and deliver every essence of this vibrant field to a wide range of audience. The fourth edition of MIFF would bring to its viewers various regional films from different parts of the country. The festival will also screen Bollywood movies and movies of international fame.
Kundan Shah, film director, who has made a name in the genre of satirical comedies through his directorial debut Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron , will be inaugurating the festival on October 29 along with award-winning filmmaker Ramachandra P.N., who will be the guest of honour.
The other personalities, who will participate in the festival include lyricist Jayant Kaikini, who is regarded as one of the most significant young writers of Kannada literature and award-winning director of Kannada films Mouni and Kaada Beladingalu , B.S. Lingadevaru.
This student-organised fest is an endeavour to bring together students, film critics, directors, researchers and the local people on one platform to celebrate the world of cinema.
Twenty four films including The Court, Dutta vs. Dutta, P Se PM Tak, Sudha, Kurmavatara, Killa, The Namesake, A Separation, 3 Iron, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai , and Welcome to Sajjanpur , would be screened in three different venues during the festival.
The three venues are: MIT Library Auditorium, Melaka Manipal Medical College and Interact Hall.
There will be an interaction programme after the screening of each film.
Apart from the screenings, a series of workshops will be held as part of the fest, including one from Kundan Shah on ‘Comedy film making’ on October 30 on the SOC premises. There will be an entry fee of Rs. 49 for the workshop, Hegde said. Padma Rani, Associate Director of SOC, was present.
