Udupi, Feb 22, 2020 dhns: Two men were arrested in connection with the murder of 68-year-old Malathi Kamath and gold jewellery worth of Rs six lakh was recovered from the duo by the police.
Malathi Kamath was found murdered at her house in Puttur village of Udupi taluk on the night of February 12.
Malathi was smothered to death with a pillow in her sleep. The gold jewellery kept inside an almariah and on her, were found missing. Since her three daughters were staying at different places, Malathi was residing alone in the house since many years.
Police sources said Malathi had engaged labourers to undertake repair works in her house. The roof of the house had been removed for repair works. Ashok (38) and Anand Ramappa (28) from Belagavi took advantage of the open roof and entered the woman’s house, since they were aware of the fact that she was alone.
The accused men were arrested while attempting to escape from the police at the KSRTC bus stand in Hubballi on the morning of February 18.
