Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Jun 5, 2012 : Two cousins in Puttur committed suicide by jumping into the well on June 4, Monday because they did not want to live away from each other.

The deceased are Ramya Shetty (21) and Sharanya Shetty (24).

Sharanya of Karmalu in Puttur was doing her engineering in Vivekananda College in Puttur. Ramya of Kudroli was doing her computers after finishing II PUC.

According to sources close to the family, Ramya made the suicide pact with her cousin when she came to know that her father was coming to Puttur to take her away to Mangalore. The source said that Ramya had been reluctant to leave Sharanya’s house right from the beginning. When their parents refused to listen to them last year, the two had run away from home. Later, they were found near the Bahubali betta in Dharmasthala.

On Monday, Sharanya’s mother heard the sound of something falling into the well at 10:00 a.m., but when the family rushed to the well, they could not see anything. The bodies were discovered only when they floated to the surface.
