Mangalore Today News Network

MangaloreUdupi, Sep 11, 2014: The two persons are feared drowned in the Nethravati after the boat in which they were carrying construction material overturned near Gatti Kudru – an island near Amblamogaru – on Wednesday in Konaje police station limits.

The police said Joachim D’Souza (60) had loaded sand and stones in his boat to be taken to the island where he stayed. Bheem (25) and Ganesh (23), both from Haveri, were also in the boat.

As the boat was crossing the river, it overturned due to strong current around 2 p.m. While Ganesh swam back to the shore, Mr. D’souza and Bheem were reportedly carried away by the current.

The police searched for the two with the help of local boat owners. They suspect the two might have drifted towards the sea. Search operations will resume on Wednesday.

Cattle theft

A gang of around seven persons allegedly tied a person and stole his cows at Bailoor village near Karkala on Wednesday. The police said the group came in a multi-utility vehicle at around 3.15 a.m. and escaped with two Jersey cows. A case has been registered at Karkala Town Police Station.
