Two people die of drowning in Udupi

Udupi, Aug 28, 2012 : Two people were washed away in flash floods, following heavy rainfall in Udupi.The victims Krishna Poojary alias Yesu (40) of Uppoor in Udupi died of drowning after accidentally falling into River Swarna.

The Udupi taluk office and the police say that Yesu had gone to the river at around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and his body was retrieved at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. The Brahmavar police have registered a case.

Yechu Naik (75) of Majur was washed away in flash floods. The police say that she had gone to fetch milk on the morning of Sunday and got caught in a downpour while returning. She was carried away by the powerful currents and her body was recovered at 7:00 a.m. on Monday. The Kaup police have registered a case.
