Mangaluru, Dec 19, 2019: The State government will not be allowed to enforce the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) without resolving issues and answering the doubts of the people, said U.T. Khader, MLA, on Wednesday.
Mr. Khader was reacting to statements made BY Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai that the government was committed to enforcing the Act. Mr. Khader told reporters that unrest continues in several parts of the county over the CAA. “When the situation is volatile, why is the State government hell-bent on enforcing the Act here and disturbing peace in the State? Why should our State become a testing centre when other State governments are yet to decide on enforcing [the Act]?” he said.
He said the government had to clear the doubts of the people of the State about the Act and what NRC meant for them.
