Vittal, April 5, 2015: Vehicle users, students, general public are facing untenable ills which are getting worse every day as apathy rules the underground drainage on Mani-Mysuru state Highway at Mani junction. The work is making hardly any visible progress but the woes are ever increasing. Major trenches are dug in the middle of the road, the people suffer due to traffic problem, dust and lack of safety.
The work was started by KRDCL, today even a small part of the work is not complete. The two way movement of vehicles is distrupted, causing a great inconvenience, the public complained and vented their anger against the department concerned. The work on the other side of the road is yet to start, the people will face very grave problems.
Passage : Only a narrow gap is left for the vehicles to move. The congested space in inadequate even for the movement of auto rickshaws. Following the closure of Shiradi Ghat, the vehicles are moving in the state highway passing through Mani, as a result of which traffic density has become high, the villagers say.Though the Mani Gram Panchayat had already piled up stones for the construction of a bus stand, the work is at a stop to the UGD work.
Dust cloud : The problem of heavy dust cloud is a curse to the people. The public complained that the contractors have been carrying out the work as they please and work is dragging on. On many days the work is halted due to lack of labour.
Mani junction is designated as an accident zone and many lives have been claimed in accidents which have taken place here. Due to the UGD works, the vehicles are made to ply haphazardly which increases hazards. The people have warned of staging protests against the inordinate delay in the work, if the work is not carried out early. It is high time that the people are heard and action taken.
