Udupi DCC to initiate expelion of Hegde - Oscar

Dec 14, 2015: As per reports, for contesting against the party’s official nominees in the elections to the Legislative Council, the Congress is likely to suspend K. Jayaprakash Hegde, Dayanand Reddy, and K. Harikrishna Bantwal.

Oscar Fernandes on Dec 13, Sunday refuted the charge that the Congress was disrupting the proceedings of Parliament over the ‘National Herald’ issue. He pointed out that despite the opinion of the Congress that the Union government was indulging in “vendetta politics”, the Lok Sabha was functioning. The Enforcement Directorate was under the Union government and it was being used to harass the Congress leaders.  He was proud to be associated with the National Herald as it was founded by Jawaharlal Nehru and had played a role in the freedom struggle, Fernandes said.

 ‘Unanimous choice’Vinaykumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, said  the name of  Pratapchandra Shetty had been backed by 10 MLAs and all Block Congress Committees in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Hence,  Shetty had been unanimously chosen by the party as its candidate.

Both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwara had urged Hegde to withdraw from the contest.  Hegde could have heeded their advice.

‘No dissidence’ According to  Sorake, there was no dissidence in the party. “. Shetty will win the seat. It is essential for us to win the seat or it will have an impact on the forthcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections,” he said. The party was campaigning in full for Shetty in both the districts. Party leaders and workers had already campaigned in Halady, Byndoor, Koteshwara, Sullia and Kaup, Sorake added. All Congress leaders and workers were working for the success of Shetty.
