Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, March 20, 2016: To ensure that Udupi district retains the top slot in the forthcoming SSLC examinations this year and to improve the performance of SSLC students, the Department of Public Information has launched several initiatives.

Addressing media, Priyanka Mary Francis, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, said that students who were lagging behind on grades were given additional coaching for an hour each, both before and after school hours.

Though the academic year usually ends on March 10, this year, it has been extended to March 29. In order to encourage students, 32 motivation camps were organised in two phases. Nearly 10,000 students took part in these camps.

A meeting of headmasters was held every month wherein they were told to prepare an action plan for the next month. An analysis of results was done after every assessment including the mid-term, first preparatory and second preparatory exams. Plans were drawn to ensure that even those students who lagged behind got a minimum of 50 per cent of marks, while those scoring 50 per cent got at least 80 per cent. Block Education Officers regularly reviewed the preparations for the exams. A weekly residential camp was held for 132 students belonging to the Koraga community in two phases to improve their performance.

Workshops were held for teachers of different subjects. Three question papers were prepared for every subject. Diwaker Shetty, DDPI, was present at the press meet.
