Udupi, June 6, 2013: Even as the robbing of a lady teacher by two strangers posing as policemen at Carstreet in Mangalore on June 6, Thursday morning, continues to hog limelight, yet another similar case has been reported from the temple town of Udupi, hours after the incident in Mangalore.
Here too the modus operandi was similar. A couple from Andhra Pradesh, Bharathi and Nagaraj were walking towards Chittaranjan Circle when they were approached by two bike bound strangers reportedly dressed in police uniform.
They told the couple to be wary as robbery cases were on the guise. When a man passed that way, they asked him to safely keep his chain inside and the man duly kept his chain in his pocket. Convinced by their words, Bharathi removed her mangalasutra and a gold chain worth over Rs 1.3 lakh and placed them in her bag. The men who helped her were not at the scene very soon. As the couple walked towards the bus stand, they found a few policemen there and narrated the incident. It was only then that they realized they were hoodwinked. They searched their bag not to find the valuables.
It is learnt the bike of the thieves was of Maharashtra registration and that one of them spoke Kannada while the other man conversed in Hindi.
Udupi town police have registered a case and search is on for the thieves.
