Udupi, June 30, 2012 : The Udupi Zilla Panchayat approved an action plan for 2012 – 13 involving the expenditure of Rs. 89.84 crore at its general body meeting held on June 29, Friday.
The members resolved during the meeting that the Udupi ZP will urge the government to increase the ZP member’s honorarium to Rs. 5,000. The ZP decided to send a delegation to the CM to discuss this issue.
Manjunath Poojary, ZP member, was the first to raise this issue. In response, Katpady Shankar Poojary, ZP president, said that the honorarium for ZP members must be raised to at least Rs. 10,000 when the honorarium for MLAs has been raised from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000. He urged MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary to consider their demands.
Responding to the plea, Shrinivas Poojary said that the Udupi ZP should send a delegation to Bangalore and place their demands before the CM. He said that he would be part of the delegation.
Mamatha Shetty, ZP member, said that the large boulders stored near the canal on the site of the Varahi Irrigation Project are in danger of rolling down any time. Responding to this issue, Ananth Movadi said that certain politicians might suppress this issue as well-know contractors are involved in this project.
