Udupi, Jan 30, 2016 :  Speaking at the protest in front of the District Government Hospital, Udupi,  demanding better facilities for the patients on Jan 29,Friday ;  Udupi district unit of Karnataka Karmika Vedike, in association with other organisations, including Zilla Nagarika Samithi,   president of Udupi district unit of Karnataka Karmika Vedike Ravi Shetty said the hospital has become a hub of irregularities. Due to negligence towards patients and lack of basic facilties, the hospital has become a hell for patients, he alleged.

Shetty demanded that the doctors and nurses, deliberately ignore the patients, they should be taken to task for their  bad  attitudes. The patients are charged double, but are treated inhumanely, he criticised.

"People, who come for treatment to the hospital, are those who cannot afford the expensive treatments at private hospitals," he said.

He said there are no CCTV cameras in the hospital to expose the behaviour of officials. The patients are not provided medicines although there is sufficient supply of medicines, he pointed out.

The hospital lacks security and there should be 24 x7 security to guard the hospital and the staff behaviour. He also accused that most of the time, bribery helps the patients to get slightly better treatments, he claimed.

Wards and washrooms in the hospital are unhygienic and bedspreads are dirty.Hygiene and cleanliness should be maintained in the hospital, he added.

The blood bank in the hospital should function actively. The availability of sufficient doctors and nurses in the ICU and other units should be ensured, he said.

There should be uninterrupted supply of free medicine from the government and they should be delivered without irregularity. Adequate maintenance should be carried out in the hospital surroundings, he added.

He threatened that they will launch a protest if the district administration does not take note and act in the matter.
