Mangalore, Aug 22, 2012 : The Social Action Group for Empowerment, based in Mangalore, has urged the union government to protect the people of Mangalore from vector-borne diseases.
P. V. Mohan, convener of Social Action Group for Empowerment, addressed reporters at a press meet held today and urged Ghulam Nabi Azad, union health minister, to send a team to conduct a study on malaria in Mangalore. He suggested that a team of experts, appointed by the centre, can identify lapses on the part of the district administration in dealing with malaria.
Mr. Mohan also suggested that Mangalore must be included under the urban malaria scheme as 131 towns in 19 states and union territories already come under this scheme.
Flaying the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), he said that the civic body is not taking any measure to protect the people of Mangalore from vector-borne diseases.
Dr. Shrinivas Kakkilaya, Prabhakar Salian, Suresh Shetty, and Celina Arena were also present.
