Mangaluru: Addressing media, Youth Welfare Committee (Valencia) Convener Anil Lobo said that  St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia, will organise ’Valencia Premier League,’ (VPL) a cricket tournament of 10 teams, representing various parishes in the Mangaluru Diocese.  The tournament would be held at the football stadium of Nehru Maidan on October 24, 25, 31 and November 1.

The teams that are participating in the VPL are Milagres United, Kulur Knights, Jeppu Avengers, Cassia Super Kings, Viva Valencia, Nirmarga United Eleven, Angelore Arrangers, Raising Star Paldane, Bajal Whales and Vamanjoor Strikers.

The league will be inaugurated by MLC Ivan D’Souza on Oct 24, Saturday at 9 am. Karnataka State Cricket Association Mangalore Zone president Manohar Amin will be the chief guest and DK district Football Association president D M Aslam will be the guest of honour. St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia Parish Priest Rev Fr James D’Souza will preside, he added.

The finals will be held on November 1 at 2 pm and the valedictory programme will be held at 3 pm. MLA and Mangaluru United KPL team owner B A Mohiyuddin Bava, MCC Mayor Jacinta Vijaya Alfred and others will participate.

The winning team will get Rs one lakh as cash prize along with the VPL championship trophy, the runner-up team will get a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with a trophy. Also, there will be cash prizes of Rs 10,000 for best batsman, best bowler and best player. Apart from this, man of the match will also be selected, Lobo added.
