Bhatkal, Oct 8, 2012 :A gang of thieves broke into a school and stole cash and valuables worth Rs. 2 lakh in the early hours of Sunday.
Zareena Kola, principal of Naunihal Central School in Bhatkal, said that Rs. 1.5 lakh from her room, valuables from the locker in the office room, as well as a video camera are missing. She said that the school had withdrawn Rs. 45,000 from the bank on Saturday for the construction work and had kept it in the locker. Fees collected from the students were also kept in the locker, she added.
She said that the thieves entered the office room by breaking open the doors. The lock on the entrance gate was also broken.
A local police team under the leadership of ASP Sudheer Kumar Reddy arrived at the school for the basic investigation. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were brought to the scene of crime.
The Bhatkal town police have registered a case.
