Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Feb 10, 2017: A member of the Karnataka Karmikara Vedike was admitted to a hospital here on Thursday after he fell ill during the indefinite hunger strike launched on Wednesday by the vedike on the issue of sand extraction.

Sudhakar, who was on hunger strike and fell ill, was rushed to a private hospital and then shifted to the District Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, the members of the vedike burnt some tyres in front of the Clock Tower here.

The police objected to it and confiscated the tyres. There were arguments between the police and the protesters for some time.

Meanwhile, the district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike backed the strike here today.

“I and another member too have become weak due to the hunger strike. Nevertheless, we will carry on with it till the district administration finds a solution to the sand extraction issue,” said Ravi Shetty, convener of the Karnataka Karmikara Vedike.
