Veerarani Abbakka Utsav 2016, starts May 7, today

Mangaluru, May 7, 2016: Addressing media, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said Veerarani Abbakka Utsav 2016 will be held at the Unity Hall, Thokkottu, on May 7 and 8 .

He said the utsav will start with a cultural procession. Minister Khader will inaugurate the cultural procession while Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports Abhayachandra Jain will hoist the flag.  The main programme will be inaugurated by Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will preside over the programme. The prizes for the winners of Rani Abbakka Trophy and cultural competitions will be distributed on the occasion.

There will be a session on the theme ’Mahile - Baduku Mattu Samasyegalu’ at 10 am on May 8.  The session will be presided by journalist Bharati Hegde. A presentation on ’Samajika Sandarbadali Mahile’ by Merlin Martis will be held.

A multi-lingual poets’ meet will be held at 2.30 pm. It will be presided by Catherine Rodrigues.

Senior writer Rohini will be felicitated with ’Veerarani Abbakka Award’ and international athlete Lalitha Jayaram and Kannada actor Harini will be awarded with ’Rani Abbakka Puraskar’ at the valedictory.
