Veerarani Abbakka Utsav to be held on May 22 - 23

Mangalore, May 2: “Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Samithi and Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy will jointly organize the state-level Veerarani Abbakka Utsava in Ullal on May 22 - 23,” said Dinakar Ullal, the working president, during a press conference organized on Saturday. 

He also said that various sports and cultural competitions will be held as part of the utsav on May 16 at St Sebastian High School at Permannur in Thokkottu. There will be separate cultural and sports competitions for men and women. 

Sports competitions such as tug of war, throw ball, cross country race, as well as folk games such as peeling of coconuts, tying akki mudi, madalu heneyudu, and others will be organized. The participants of the folk games competitions must bring with the all the material required by them. 

The cultural competitions will include a Kannada elocution competition on “Women who laid down their lives for Independence,” a group singing competition, Tulu skit competition, Kannada quiz, and Tulu Paddana contest. 

The winners will receive cash prizes and citations at Abbakka Utsav. Those interested must register before May 12 with the Working President, Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Samithi, Appayya Mansion, Thokkotu, Permannur. For additional details, contact: 2466957
