Volunteers pitch in to clean areas in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 04, 2016: Reports confirm that volunteers took part in a cleanliness drive organised at seven locations as part of Swachha Abhiyan organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru. Members of Nivedita Balaga and Bhagini Samaja cleaned the Mangaladevi area. About 65 dustbins were distributed among shopkeepers in Mangaladevi area on experimental basis. All the shop keepers were asked to purchase the dustbins to instil in them a sense of responsibility for the cleanliness.

For the last two weeks, members under the guidance of Rathna Alva and Vijayalakshmi, visited houses in the area creating awareness among the locals on the need to maintain cleanliness. The surroundings of Cascia High school were also cleaned.

The students of Saraswat Education Trust cleaned the road in front of Mangalore Central Station. More than 300 student volunteers cleaned the roads and drains. Students of Parijnana PU College, Kotekar, Ganapathi PU College, Ganapathi English Medium High School joined the team of volunteers in the cleanliness drive. The members of Deralakatte Rotary Club members cleaned the areas between Kutthar Junction and Yenapoya Hospital. Students of Vidyarathna English Medium School and Sri Nityadhara English Medium School participated in the drive. The team cleaned both sides of the road and removed four loads of dumped garbage using JCB and tipper vehicles.

The Members of Mangalore Senior Citizens Forum carried out the cleanliness drive in Bejai area. The team cleaned the surroundings of Bejai Market and the surroundings of Bejai Church. The members of Sri Ayyappaswamy Bhajana Mandira carried out the cleanliness drive in Kotekar area. Using JCB, road leading to Someshwara from Kotekar was thoroughly cleaned.

The members of Sri Amba Maheshwari Bhajana Mandira took up the drive in Mulihithlu area. A garbage dumping place was beautifully converted into a garden at Mulihithlu.  The members of Ayyappaswamy Mandira and Hindu Yuva Sene took up the drive in Hindu Nagar of Yekkur area. Under the guidance of Ramakrishna Mission, Swacch Puttur team carried out the second drive in Puttur. Drive was organised in the surroundings of Manjalpadpu Petrol Bunk area. A circle near Puttur Bypass and the road leading to main road which was neglected for years was renovated and repainted by the team led by G Krisha. Volunteers of Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt, Omkar Friends, Kallare, Janajagruti Samiti, Puttur and more than 250 people of Puttur actively participated in the drive. MRPL and Nitte Education Trust are patronising this Third Phase of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan.
