Vote for the right candidates, urges Ramanath Rai

Mangalore, April 26: B Ramanath Rai, the president of the District Congress Committee and MLA of Bantwal constituency, has called upon voters to vote for the right candidate and thereby ensure effective local governance and social harmony. Simultaneously, he accused the BJP of not having faith in the Gram Panchayath system. He was speaking at a press conference held at the office of the Congress Party on April 26, Monday.

He said that the supervisors for the District Block Congress Committees will foil the BJP’s strategy in the forthcoming GP polls and expressed hope that the candidates supported by the Congress will win most of the district seats.

The MLA announced that Ivan D’Souza (Ullal), Suresh Ballal (Pane Mangalore), Ashok Kumar DK (Bantwal), Vishwas Kumar Das (Suratkal), Kallige Tharanath Shetty (Puttur), Prasanna Kumar Rai (Sullia), Venkappa Gowda (Kadaba), Shashidhara Hegde (Belthangady), Arun Coelho (Moodbidri), Dinakara Ullal (Vitla), Harinath (Mulky), and Santhosh Kumar Shetty (Gurpur) will look after the respective blocks.

Referring to recent incidents that led to communal tension and social disharmony, Rai warned voters not to vote for people who disturb communal peace. He urged them to elect only those who respect the plural society of India and want to strengthen the Panchayat system.

Accusing the BJP of not having faith in the Panchayat system and the decentralization of power, he declared that the BJP is making attempts to wreck the Panchayat system by appointing administrators to the GPs, adding that the BJP is attempting to rob people at the GP level by establishing monitoring committees. He also accused the BJP of using the funds collected for the flood victims of North Karnataka to purchase voters before the polls.

He also accused the BJP of not implementing any welfare programme for women, farmers, and unemployed people for two years, adding that the CM is lying to people on a number of issues.

He said that the state government has failed in all areas of administration, creating an intolerable situation in society characterized by price rise and marginalization of the poor.
