Mangalore, Aug 16, 2014: Chairing a meeting ,Deputy Commissioner A BIbrahim has directed Food and Civil Supplies department officials to initiate the process of declaring Mangalore a kerosene-free city, he said that the officials should ensure that all the poor who do not have domestic gas cylinders, apply for gas connections. He said that BPL card holders have to get gas connections in the next two months.
The DC said that the Food and Civil Supplies Department will stop issuing kerosene to fair price shops after two months. The MCC should initiate measures to distribute domestic gas for the the poor under 22.75 pc funds for the welfare of SC/ST, 7.25 pc fund for the poor, and three per cent fund earmarked for the welfare handicapped.
The IOC/HPCC/BPC oil companies have already been directed to make arraangement for the LPG connections to the poor on a priority basis. The BPL card holders without LPG connections in Puttur, Moodbidri, Mulki, Belthangady, Bantwal, Ullal and Sullia should approach their respective municipal bodies and panchayats. How well this succeeds depends on several factors.
