Woman carries surgical scissors in pain for 4 years

Mangalore, June 30, 2014:  Negligent doctors at a hospital in Mangalore  cost a woman grave consequences when they left a pair of  sugical scissors in her abdomen during Hysterectomy operation. Unimaginably,  the scissors remained for four years, despite the victim Hapsa’s repeated complaints to the doctor about persistent abdominal pain and so on.

It is reported, Hapsa, a resident of Madoor on the outskirts of Mangalore had undergone operation on February 22, 2010. Dr Poornima Nair and Dr Rohan Gatti had operated on her. She used to visit the doctor regularly and complain of pains. Instead of taking her complaints seriously, the doctor would prescribe some medicines dismissing her pain as  insignificant. 

On one occasion when she informed Dr Poornima Nair of pain, she asked her to consult a dermatologist. The dermatologist asked the woman to undergo scanning and X-ray, the X-ray on June 28, revealed a pair of scissors inside the abdomen.  When Hapsa informed the doctors about the scissors in her abdomen, the duo had reportedly asked her not to reveal the issue to anyone, said the complaint filed in Mangalore East police station.
