Mangalore Today News Network

Vittal, June 29, 2014: According to reliable information, a 45-year-old woman  endosulfan victim who was suffering from cancer, allegedly ended her life at Alike in Vittal. The deceased has been identified as Kusuma (45), wife of Ramanna Gowda. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and the family has spent over Rs 15 lakh towards her treatment in private hospitals in Mangalore. She was worried over the increasing expenses. As per the information provided under the RTI act to activist Shridhar; Kusuma was identified as one of the victims from Bantwal taluk. However, Ramanna Gowda said that till her death, she had not received smart card which entails endosulfan victims to receive several benefits including free treatment in multispeciality hospitals.

When the issue of not receiving smart card was brought to the notice of Health Minister U T Khader, he said that he will ask the DC to inquire into the matter. The government has introduced special package for the endosulfan victims to support their plight. The negligent action of the responsible is indeed shocking.
