Women’s college students protest failure to hold classes

Udupi, Jan 28, 2016 : It is noted that  a memorandum submitted to Udupi tahsildar T.J. Guruprasad, a  large number of women students of G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College and Postgraduate Centre took out a rally from the college to the taluk office, where they staged a ’dharna’  on Jan 27, Wednesday, demanding regular classes be conducted in their college.

The students said that many classes were not being held at the college as guest lecturers had gone on strike. The  Minister for Higher Education T.B. Jayachandra, Udupi district in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and University of Mangalore should take immediate action and resolve the issue, the memorandum said. Jagadish Rao, principal of Dr. G. Shankar Women’s First Grade College and PG Centre, said the matter had been brought to the notice of the Joint Director of Collegiate Education and Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru.
