Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Dec 2, 2016: With a poem in Hindi recited at Ravindra Kala Bhavan on Dec 1, Thursday, students applauded, encouraging budding poet Gajanan Sharma.

Sharma, a helper in the maintenance wing of electrical department in Southern Railway, Palakkad division that covers Mangaluru too, has a penchant not just for poetry, but also to create awareness for social cause. Be it AIDS Day, traffic awareness, Environment Day, Sharma drops in uninvited, with the sole intention of educating people with his lines. He is a regular contributor to ’Chirag’ the in-house magazine of southern railways, Palakkad division. He has also won cash prize twice for his poetry.

Sharma had rendered his first poem on AIDS during the same event at Wenlock Hospital in 2014. While he could not attend it last year, he went to the District Wenlock Hospital Thursday morning, assuming it to be the venue for the programme.
