Mangaluru, Feb 09, 2015: The III Judicial Magistrate First Class judge Undi Manjula Shivappa on Friday sentenced a shop owner in Hampankatta and his two friends to a year’s imprisonment on finding them guilty of sexually harassing a 24-year-old employee.

The magistrate convicted Loy D’Souza (30), owner of Konkan Traders, and Ashok Crasta (21) and Puneet Shettigar (22).

According to a charge sheet filed, D’Souza and his two friends teased the girl and made undue advances towards her on July 10, 2013.

On a complaint filed by the girl on July 11, the police arrested the three for offences under Sections 354 (sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (uttering words or doing gestures to insult a girl) of the Indian Penal Code.

A counter-complaint was filed against the girl and her brother accusing them of assaulting the three persons.

Public Prosecutor Mohan Kumar said the three convicted persons have been directed by the court to pay fine of Rs. 6,000 to the victim.

Life sentence

The I Additional District and Sessions Judge B.K. Naik sentenced Jubaid (30) to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering his brother Mohammed Sharief.
