Mangalore, May 31: A one-day training programme was organized at the World Konkani Centre on May 29 for Konkani teachers appointed by the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation for 10 DK schools.
Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of the foundation, inaugurated the camp and delivered the key-note address. Dr. Kasturi Mohan Pai, the secretary of Karnataka Konkani Linguistic Minority Education Institutions Assocation (KKLMEIA); poet Melwyn Rodrigues; and educationist Dr. Devadas Pai motivated and trained the teachers in various aspects of language pedagogy.
Venkatesh N. Baliga, the secretary of the foundation, organized a brain-storming session at the beginning of the programme. Gurudath Bantwalkar, the assistant director of the World Institute of Konkani Language, was the coordinator of the training programme.
The Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation invited applications for the post of Konkani language teachers in 10 schools under the KKLMEIA and Catholic Education Board. This is a pilot project, which will be extended to all the schools, which have a potential for introducing Konkani as a third language from the VI Std in the coming five years.
The job interview was held on May 15; and the 10 candidates who were selected for the post participated in this training programme and will serve as Konkani teachers from June 1.
