Mangaluru, Feb 03, 2015: A 10-member team of Yakshagana artistes, led by Yaksha Manjusha, will present two Yakshagana shows in London on February 28 and March 1, according to Vidya Kolyur, director and performer, Yaksha Manjusha.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Ms. Kolyur said that the team, comprising both professional and amateur artistes, would leave Mangaluru on February 25 and return here on March 3. The team would present Yakshagana in the Tenku Thittu (southern school) style. She said that a show, Sri Krishna Parijatha and Narakasura Vadhe, would be performed in Kannada at Bharatiya the Vidya Bhavan. Another show, Panchavati, would be performed in Hindi. Its venue is yet to be finalised.
According to her, it would be for the first time a Yakshagana team would be presenting the Tenku Thittu style of Yakshagana in London. Earlier, Yakshagana had been performed in London in the Badagu Thittu (northern school) style. The artistes in the team included Bhagawatha (singer) Patla Satish Shetty from the Kateel mela, Padmanabha Upadhyaya, Devananda Bhat, Dharmasthala Chandrashekar from the Dharmasthala mela, and Mohan Bellippady, Prashanth Shetty Nelyadi, Arun, Rakesh Rai, all from the Kateel mela. Saravu Krishna Bhat would be the convener.
