Mangaluru, Jan 28, 2017: It is reported that Yakshagana artiste and critic M. Prabhakara Joshi will be presented with the Parti Subba award instituted by the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy at the Town Hall here on Jan 28, today, Saturday.

The award for 2016 carries a purse of Rs. 1 lakh, a memento and a citation. The academy would confer its honorary award on 10 persons at the function. It carried Rs. 50,000 in cash, a memento and a citation. The awards would be presented at 6.30 p.m.

Those who would get the honorary award are Subraya Venkatramana Bhatta, Gundibail, Honnavara (Bada Badau Thittu); Gopalakrishna Kurup of Belthangady (Tenku Thittu); Heranjalu Subbanna Ganiga (Badagu Thittu), Usha Rani of Bellary (Bayalata); Tukarama Maruti Nayika of Belagavi (Sannata); Vilasabai Mageppa Rayannavara of Jamakhandi (Sri Krishna Parijatha); Narahari Shastri of Bengaluru (Sutrada Gombeyata); Chikka Chowdiah Naika of T Narasipura (Moodalapaya); Ningappa Torangagatte of Jagaluru (Bayalata); and Srinivasa Sastana of Bengaluru (Yakshagana). Addressing reporters here on Friday, president of the academy Belagallu Veeranna said that those who have been selected for the awards would be taken out in a procession along with art troupes from Sharavu Mahaganapathi temple to the venue at 5 p.m.

Minister of State for Kannada and Culture and Women and Child Development Umashree will present the awards.
