Mangaluru, June 23, 2016: Reports say that Manipal University observed International Yoga Day on June 21, Tuesday in association with Division of Yoga (CIMR) and NCC. Students, staff members, faculty and people from nearby places took part in the various activities held during the day. Yoga demonstration and practices including asanas, pranayama, relaxation technique and meditation were held.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal spoke about the International Yoga Day celebrations initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year and explained how successfully it was held world-over. Dr Ballal also said that the University would promote Integrated Medicine in future. Dr Ganapathi Joisa, former HoD of the Division of Yoga, CIMR, Manipal was felicitated on the occasion.
Fr Muller Hospital : The International Yoga Day was observed at the Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital on June 22, yesterday, Wednesday.
The programme was inaugurated by District Ayush Officer Dr Devadas K Putran. Speaking on the occasion, he explained the importance of Yoga and highlighted peace and harmony aspect of Yoga. College Administrator Rev Fr Vincent Saldanha advised the students that Yoga is not just a work, it is more of a relaxation for harmony and should be practised in daily life.
For civic workers : The APD, Anti Pollution Drive activists observed the Day with civic workers (Paurakarmikas) of Mangaluru City Corporation. Yoga Day was observed with a one hour yoga live demonstration and participatory programme at Padua High School, Mangaluru. The programme was organised by APD in association with Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd, and Yoga Kuteera, Mangaluru. The Yoga session was conducted by Radhakrishna Shetty, and as many as 300 civic workers participated. Addressing the participants, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said, "Yoga gives mental peace." Mayor Harinath was present.
KIOCL : In connection with the Yoga day celebrations, yoga sessions were conducted at the Nehru Bhavan, KIOCL Township in Kavoor from June 15 to 21. KIOCL general manager Bobraj V Jeyaharan said, "Yoga should be a part of life. Our human body is like a vehicle, only if maintained properly, it can sustain. In today’s polluted world, therefore, it is essential to overhaul our health by practicing yoga regularly and being well."
