ZP to launch 12 development projects in Naxal-infested zones

Mangalore, Aug 9, 2012 : Sathyanarayana, executive engineer for ZP, announced at a ZP meeting that the ZP will launch 12 development projects worth Rs. 75 lakh in the Naxal-infested areas of Belthangady.

Revealing further details, he said that Rs. 20 lakh will be spent on constructing a bridge to Annaru Colony in Charmadi and Rs. 20 lakh will be spent on constructing access roads to Kuthloor, Naravi, Alapa forest, Nellikaru, and Kuriyadi.

Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, chief executive officer of the DK District Zilla Panchayat (ZP), presided over the meeting.

The engineers have submitted a proposal to the superintendent of the ZP’s engineering division to get its approval for the project. Eight projects worth Rs. 14 lakh have already been prepared and released by the DC. Sabir Ahmed Mulla, Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) officer, said that Rs. 1 lakh will be spent on installing solar lights in Sulkeri Mogru within a fortnight.

The ZP has also submitted to the state government a proposal to train 25 young people in JCB and a proposal for a Rs. 213 lakh project to supply basic infrastructure in Belthangady.

The need to conduct a survey among the Malekudiya community was also discussed at the meeting.

Somappa of the Karnataka Minority and Backward Classes Department said that 24 beneficiaries from Mithabagilu, Naravi, Suvanali, and Laila have received loans worth Rs. 4.80 lakh under the Sharmashakthi Yojana. Besides, 25 beneficiaries will receive Rs. 25,000 each under the minor loan scheme, he said.

Prakash Nethalkar, wildlife division officer, said that the forest department and the eco development committee must be informed well in advance before launching any development project in the forest area to avoid complications in future.

The ZP CEO instructed social welfare officers to conduct health camps for kids.
