Mangalore, April 5: Principal and Registrar of St. Aloysius College, an autonomous college under the Mangalore University, have both said that the High Court of Karnataka had issued an order to admit students of their college for awards and medals to the 28th convocation of the varsity to be held on Tuesday.
Responding to the reports that appeared in these columns on Sunday, they said in a statement that “The university has made a statement that no student of St. Aloysius College is entitled for awards and medals.
The college is surprised to know on what basis such a verification was made without calling for records from the college.’’
They further said, “A statement is attributed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university that ‘the university will not award degrees to students of that batch (of 2007-08 batch)’.
Such a statement is totally uncalled for at this juncture, when a writ petition is pending before the court. The Order that the students who are entitled for awards and medals are to be admitted to the convocation without insisting on any registration fee is a clear indication that students of the college are admitted to the convocation.”
