MHS to raise funds for hemophilia patients

Udupi, Apr 18: The Manipal Haemophilia Society (MHS) of Kasturba Medical Hospital, Manipal, has organized a kite-flying festival on April 30 with the purpose of creating public awareness regarding hemophilia and raising funds for hemophilia patients, said Dr. Annamma Kurien, the president of the society, during a press conference. She added that most of the patients are poor and that the society provides subsidized treatment and rehabilitation for them. 

Dr. H S Ballal, the pro-chancellor of Manipal University, observed World Haemophilia Day, by formally launching the sale of Gujarathi kites along with coupons for a lucky draw. Around 1,200 kites will be placed on sale from Saturday. The cost of two kites and a spool is Rs 100. Buyers will also receive a coupon for a lucky draw, which has been sponsored by Wedding Palace, Udupi. The coupons can be purchased independently too. The lucky draw will be held on April 30. 

Asha Kiran 2010, a free camp for hemophilia patients and their families, will be held by the society from April 30 to May 2. The society expects 100 people to participate in the camp, which will comprises educative sessions, fun and games, interaction, picnics, and so on. The camp will be held at T A Pai EMHS Kunjibettu and will be supported by Kasturba Hospital and Manipal University.
