Kadaba police arrest 2 vehicle thieves

Kadaba, Apr 20: The Kadaba police have arrested two persons, allegedly belonging to a major gang, on Monday. Several motor cycles and two jeeps were also confiscated. The arrested are Rasheed (27) of Naikodi and Lateef (25) of Marathala. 

The police team was headed by CPI Manjaiah of Puttur rural, who stumbled into the racket while making a routine check of vehicles. The accused failed to produce the required documents during the checking. They were not even able to explain how the vehicles came into their possession. Ramesh informed press people that the accused stole vehicles, gave them a fresh coat of paint, and changed their number plates before selling them. 

The jeeps were stolen from Belthangady and Kadaba and the motorcycles were stolen from Belthangady and Mangalore Rural. The police discovered the motorcycles at Lateef’s house; and one of the jeeps was at Rasheed’s house. The other jeep was found in Kerala. 

A large gang of vehicle thieves is believed to be involved in these thefts. Ramesh said that police investigations are on and hinted that several more arrests might be made in the near future.

The confiscated vehicles are estimated to be worth Rs 2 lakhs.
