Mangalore, April 20: Former MLA and Congress leader Vijay Kumar Shetty, whom District-in-charge Minister Palemar had defeated in the recent Assembly elections, accused him of direct involvement in the missing case of advocate Preetham Kumar. He was speaking to media persons at the Congress Party office on April 20, Tuesday.
He also alleged that impartial investigation into the missing case of advocate Preetham Kumar is impossible as long as Krishna J Palemar is in power. Chandrakanth, the uncle of Preetham, was also present during the press conference. Accusing the police of allowing the BJP to pressurize them to neglect the case, Shetty said that Palemar and his party had an important role to play in the sudden transfer of Dr. A S Rao, the superintendent of police, who was a terror to criminals in the DK.
The former minister informed press people that Palemar is a close relative of the girl with whom the missing advocate was in love and that, after Preetham Kumar went missing, the girl’s elder brother and father had approached Palemar to request him to use his influence and hush up the case. He accused the minister of agreeing to help them. The former MLA also challenged Palemar to hand over the case to the CBI if he is really innocent.
Preetham Kumar has been missing since Jan 24. Although a missing person complaint was lodged at the Kavoor police station, the police have taken the case lightly and not much has been done to trace the missing advocate.
Shetty said that Preetham’s family also feels that Palemar is involved in the missing case of Preetham Kumar. They argued that Ananathapadmanabha, the SI of Kavoor, who is a relative of the district-in-charge minister, has taken the case lightly, said Shetty. He also informed press people that the SI had hesitated to register a case against the elder brother and father of the girl.
The police registered the case only after advocates made several calls. In their complaint, Preetham’s family had mentioned that the girl’s parents had the political power and authority to kidnap Preetham.
