Attack on media: Bunder police arrest four culprits




Mangalore, April 21: Bunder Police have arrested four culprits in connection with the attacks on Kannada Prabha news paper and Vijay Karnataka, evening news paper, last month. The arrest were made on April 21.

The arrested culprits were identified as Mansoor Vallachil (26), Akbar(26), resident of Adyar, Ummer Farooq (23) of Vallachil and Shameer, resident of Ulayi Bettu.


It is said that the Bunder police have captured them from the Central Market area and also from Pumpwel and confiscated a motor bike and auto rickshaw. The four culprits are belonging to KFD organization said the police, who interrogated them after the arrest.


Last month, a group of 6 - 7 miscreants attacked the Mangalore office of “Kannada Prabha,” the Kannada daily, which is located on the first floor of Ganesh Mahal on K S Rao Road and Vijay Kirana evening news paper .


The office was open when the group rushed in and threw a bomb inside it. Four of these miscreants were wearing masks. The staff was rescued quickly and none of them suffered any injuries. The fire and the resultant smoke destroyed valuable equipment such as computers.


The police rushed to the spot and so did the fire fighting squad. The situation is currently under control. Meanwhile, the miscreants fled; and police have launched a manhunt for them.
