MIFT celebrates valedictory of first SVN trainee batch

Mangalore, Apr 22: The Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology (MIFT) organized the valedictory of the first batch of students trained under Suvarna Vastra Neethi (SVN), a government scheme. The MIFT has been assigned the task of training groups of 20 young people belonging to the financially backward section of society as fashion designers under the SVN, every month. Twenty trainees received certificates and a stipend of Rs 2000.  

Ms Lakshmi Rao, the senior functionary of the late Aroor Lakshminarayana Rao Trust, gave away monthly stipends to the first batch of fashion designing students. 

Chairman of the ALN Rao Trust Mr. Prasad Rao awarded a sewing machine worth Rs 5000 to a bright student achiever. He also said that the trust will award free sewing machines every month to an outstanding SVN trainee. He informed that the SVN training has been taken over by MIFT, which is run by the ALN Rao Trust with Mr. M G Hegde as its academic director. 

Mr. N Yogish, the assistant director of the textiles department, presented cheques to the trainees and said that SVN has been handed over to MIFT in recognition of the great development it has made in producing fashion designers all over Karnataka. The SVN might continue for a period of five years.
