Mangalore, April 23: The District Sessions Court ordered the Superintendent of Police to investigate and file a detailed report regarding the alleged torture of Rohitaksha (42) by the Uppinangady police, as per the Human Rights Act of 1993.
Human Rights lawyer Dinesh Hegde Ulepady had filed a petition on behalf of his client Rohitaksha on Feb 6, 2010 under the HR Act. Accordingly, the court ordered that the report should be filed within 15 days. In his petition, he had complained that SI Nagesh Kadri of Uppinangady police station had tortured him on Nov 23, 2009 till he fell unconscious.
Rohitaksha was later admitted to a local hospital, which issued reports that his body was full of abrasions and contusions. He was discharged after 11 days, after which he lodged a complaint at the Karntaka State Human Rights Commission, the Superintendent of Police, and the Inspector General of Police (Western Range), but he still did not get justice.
Finally, Rohitaksha approached Mr. Ulepady and filed a private petition at the District and Sessions court.
