World Book Day celebrated

Mangalore April 25: The Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahithya Parishad celebrated the World Book Day in the Government Pre University Women’s College on April 25, Sunday. 

Advocate Anita Kini inaugurated the event by opening Shri Ramayanam Darshanam, a book written and autographed by Jnana Peeta Awardee Kuvempu. Kini said that she was happy to see the rare manuscript of Shri Ramayana Darshanam. She recalled her student days and the interest she had shown in this literary piece. 

She said that, in spite of the rising popularity of electronic media, books must be made available. The Internet is a huge source of knowledge; however it is not as accessible to the masses as books are. So, books should be made available to the future generations, she advised. 

Two recent works of Kannada poet Dundiraj were read. 

Vaman Idya was the chief guest of the programme. Dr. Satyanarayana Mallipatna presided over the programme. President of Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishad Mahesh R Nayak and Anita Shenoy were present on the dais.
