KIADB officials accused of trespassing and theft

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Apr 29: The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) acquired 6.99 acres of private land for the second phase of Mangalore Special Economic Zone at Kalavaru Village near Bajpe.

One of the land-owners whose land was acquired, Gregory Patro, alleged that the officials trespassed into non acquired land, destroyed temporary buildings with door numbers, and also carried away jewelry, rice, and other household items.

Mr. Patrao had constructed the temporary buildings on a separate piece of land so that he could move into them when the KIADB acquired the notified land. Patrao, who owns over 14 acres of land, had submitted a petition against land acquisition for MSEZ. This March, the court ruled in favor of KIADB.

The KIADB officials claim that they acquired notified land only after the court ruled in their favor and that they had not trespassed into the rest of the property.
